Sustainability

Maximum quality, minimal emissions.

For Kalle, sustainability is an obligation and central component of the business concept. Our sponge cloths are made from wood cellulose and cotton, which are both renewable raw materials. They are durable, reusable and biodegradable.

Renewable Raw Materials

Kalle Sponge Cloths are produced from renewable raw materials. They consist of 70% wood cellulose and 30% cotton.

Durability and Reusability

Kalle Sponge Cloths offer particular abrasion resistance and are therefore particularly durable. They can be washed repeatedly in the dishwasher or washing machine – even as part of a boil wash. When they are dried, they do not become brittle; rather, they remain flexible and can be re-used "as new".

The Kalle Sponge Cloth can be even particularly well sterilised through physical (e.g., thermal, radiotherapy) and chemical processes (e.g., ethylene oxide).

Sustainable cleanliness

Kalle Sponge Cloths do not only ensure clean surfaces, but are also better than other wiping cloths at absorbing bacteria, germs and pathogens, and simply transfer these to the waste water when they are cleaned.

Biodegradability

When the sponge cloths are no longer to be used, they can be disposed of with household waste. They are even biodegradable according to the EN 13432 standard (certified by the ISEGA company; Jan. 2011).

"Carbon Footprint"

The carbon footprint has become established as a measure for environmental damage. It states the CO2 emissions through production and transport of a product. European retailers are increasingly endeavouring to reduce their carbon footprint. Kalle already uses all possible methods to avoid unnecessary CO2 emissions in production. On the Kalle-Albert industrial park, renewable sources of energy also already account for up to 30% of energy used. Through our location at the heart of Europe, transport distances to our European customers are very short and CO2 emissions due to transport are drastically reduced.

Closed Production Loops

Important production auxiliary materials are fed into closed loops and used on multiple occasions. This minimises emissions in water and air.

Environmental Management

Kalle must fulfil the strict requirements laid down by German environmental legislation that demands emissions to be kept to the lowest level in the world.

Quality Assurance

Through its own quality laboratory, Kalle constantly ensures that its sponge cloths fulfil all legal requirements and warranted characteristics.
